Dear New Searles Families,
Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! I would like to introduce this year's New Searles PTO board members. My name is Carey Walters and this is my 2nd year as PTO President, 4th year on the board. I have two children, 4th and 6th grade, and I am employed as a physical therapist.  Returning to the board this year is Vice President Camella Newton, Treasurer Natalie Iucci, Secretary Joyce Teixeira, Publicity Rob Johnson and Pilar Gabriel, Volunteer Coordinator Mrs. Desjardins, and Teacher Representatives Mrs. Ball, Mrs. Gillis, and Mrs. McLaughlin.  We welcome new board members, Fundraising/Second Vice President Katie Kelly and Programs Jolene Knisell. We are appreciative of the many parents and staff that help behind the scenes. We are also very grateful to the guidance of our administrators, Mr. Harding and Ms. Peck.

Thank you so much for taking the time to fill out surveys at the beginning of last year.  From the surveys, we first realized that it was important to improve communication between the school, PTO, and the parents. To that end, we created the PTO website:  http://newsearlesschool.my-pto.org/ .  Please remember to update your account with your child’s new teacher for the year. Also feel free to join any groups that you wish to stay informed of (Holiday Fair, Spring Fling, etc.). We can ALWAYS use more help!

Secondly, parents wanted options for attending meetings. In addition to our first meeting on Wednesday, September 6 at 7:15pm, we will have an informal coffee hour on Monday, September 11 at 9:15am.

Lastly, parents wanted more after school activities. In addition to our after-school sporting activities (cross country and ski club), this year we are hoping to add some academic enrichment programs. These activities are all volunteer-led by staff and parents. If you have an interest in helping with these activities at the school, please feel free to contact us or Mr. Harding.

New Searles PTO is very active in the school community.  We provide an annual stipend to the teachers for classroom supplies, as well as funding for teacher requests and field trip assistance. We also sponsor many cultural enrichment programs for entertainment and education. In order to support these programs, we hold various fundraisers throughout the year such as Holiday Craft Fair, Butterfly Kisses Dance, Mother/Son Night, Pancake Breakfast, Spring Fling, and Ice Cream Social. We have made some changes to the fun run, The Husky Hustle, this year.  Please see the attached form for more information and sponsorship opportunities. While we realize not all fundraisers appeal to everyone, we appreciate your support throughout the year.

The New Searles PTO is excited about the upcoming year and we look forward to working with all the families and staff in our community.
Sincerely

Carey Walters
President, New Searles PTO
